Cows, a mayor, porn, basketball and more…..or I love photography

I have been shooting a lot recently. I have some portrait’s and a fashion shoot that will have to wait. But here is a conglomerate of the other things I’ve been working on. I know absolutely nothing about most (save mayors) of the topics posted here. But what I do know that I love meeting new people and being thrown into situations that are completely foreign to me. And that brings me to my post. I recently read a blog post, that was wonderful, called I love photography. It made me think a lot. And I love photography too. But, I think a different perhaps more selfish way. I love people, I do. I’m interested in possibly almost everybody. I just find life, wow this sounds cliché, incredible, astounding…wicked. And while, this might not be the best trait in the rest of my life, it really helps me in my photo world. I’m fascinated, excited, just awed by everyone I shoot. I love being let into their lives. And for that moment I want to know who they are, and show some of that. I love the diversity of the world. There is so much that I just don’t know about, like cow’s. And that I get to meet people from all walks of life, and experience places and situations that I otherwise wouldn’t is extraordinary. So this is selfish. To save myself a bit, my goal however is to share this moment or feeling, so that others may experience it as well. A tall task. I am also never as present in the world is when I’m shooting. It’s like nothing else exists but me and this person, place, situation. Everything else disappears and all I see, feel, think and what’s in front of my eyes. And that is priceless to me. So, I understand that my motives are perhaps selfish. And I guess I’m okay with that. However, I want to bring some of this experience, of this excitement of the person or situation that I’m photographing to the viewer and have them fall in love for moment as well.

All of these photos were shot for the New York Times recently. Very different situations. I let you figure out which is which. Here are some links: Branding, San Jose, Earth Station, Willie brown.
